How to prepare for your appointment

When making your initial booking, we will ask your preference for a morning or afternoon appointment. We will confirm a 1 hour time slot with you 24 hours before your chosen day.

Please note, we will ask you a few questions regarding your chimney at the time of booking.  If our sweep arrives at your property and discovers that a regular sweep isn't possible (i.e. a birds nest) costs may increase.  This will be discussed with you before any action is taken.

BEFORE YOUR SWEEP ARRIVES

  1. Advise of any parking issues BEFORE your appointment.  Our equipment is heavy and cannot be carried far.
  2. DO NOT use your fireplace or log burner at least 24 hours before your appointment. The sweep will not be able to go ahead unless the chimney is cool.
  3. Ensure there is a clear pathway from your front door to the fireplace/log burner.
  4. Clear a 2 x 2 meter space in front of the fire/log burner.

The Sweeping Process

The following steps will be taken during your appointment

Initial Inspection:

The sweep will examine the chimney from the outside, possibly asking for your assistance if they're unsure which chimney to sweep.

Interior Inspection:

The sweep will inspect the chimney from inside your home, asking about any issues encountered in the last 12 months.

Preparation:

They will lay down a protective sheet to safeguard the floor and don appropriate equipment.

Set Up Equipment:
The sweep will bring in equipment and prepare to sweep the chimney, explaining the process and addressing any questions you might have.

Sweeping Process:
One or two rods with a brush will be pushed up the chimney.

The fireplace is sealed with a sheet and taped to contain any soot.

A rod is guided up the chimney, connected to a HEPA filtered industrial hoover to minimise mess.

Chimney Inspection:
The sweep will ascend outside to check the chimney's top before descending the rods down slowly while ensuring the sheet remains sealed and the hoover is active.

Clean-Up:

The sheet is removed carefully, soot and debris cleared from fireplace, including ledges, mantles, and hearths.

Smoke Test:
Chimney is warmed and smoke tested to ensure proper airflow.

Final Clean-Up:
Hoover is used to clear any remaining mess.

CO Alarm Check:
The sweep will check the CO alarm placement and provide guidance if necessary.

Payment and Certificate:
Payment is collected and paper certificate handed over as proof of the sweep.

Rebooking:
Discussion is had regarding the possibility of scheduling the next appointment for the following year.
